Butterscotch has a distinct flavor that makes it amazing! It has some caramel and toasted notes, but it’s a bit salty. It also tastes similar to toffee. Basically like if toffee and salted caramel had a child. It’s delicious over ice cream, cake, bars and pancakes.

FAQ’s about Butterscotch Sauce:
Q: What is the difference between caramel sauce and butterscotch sauce?
A: Traditional caramel sauce is made with white granulated sugar while butterscotch sauce is made with brown sugar. Also, caramel doesn’t have to include butter (and most of times it’s not included!) while butterscotch always has butter mixed in. And toffee? Well, toffee is just butterscotch sauce that’s cooked for a bit longer.
Q: Why is it called butterscotch sauce?
A: A lot of people think the name is for the alcohol, however there’s no scotch in butterscotch! The name comes from “scotched” or scorched butter which is a must when making butterscotch.
Q: How can you store butterscotch sauce?
A: I like to keep it in my refrigerator where it lasts perfectly fine for around 8 days. Once I’m ready to serve it I give it a quick pop in the oven to melt it again.
